BeRo Project

Updated: Jan 27, 2026 · Published: Oct 23, 2025 by LynnH · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

I would love you to join me in this BERO project, where I bake as many recipes from one of the BERO booklets that I have.

During a stressful and heart-wrenching year 2025, I began to lose my baking mojo; I just didn't enjoy baking anymore, at least not in the way I used to. I wanted and needed to bring back a bit of joy into baking.

As I began looking through all my cookbooks, I discovered three forgotten BeRo cooking and baking booklets.

These booklets were first published in 1923, and I have the following editions.

  • 34th Edition - Published c1974/75
  • 40th Edition - Published 1999
  • 41st Edition - Published c 2009, with approx 108 recipes plus sections on how to make pastry, Icings and Fillings, Sweet and Savoury Sauces and lots of Helpful Hints.

I would love to add to the collection, but when you look online, the prices vary so much that it's hard to decide on what is a good price to pay. Also, condition is everything. I would love to know how much the recipes have changed in the years since they were first published. Read more about the BeRo story.

In the 40th edition, I saw notes I'd added at the side of some familiar recipes, and thought, why not start there? Baby steps.

How long will it take?

For this project, I will work on Edition 41, the most recent one published c2009. I will also compare it with the oldest edition - #34 c 1974/75) that I have.

I have no idea how long it will take to complete this project. With over 100 recipes, 2 per week would take just over a year. So let's just say, it will be done when it's done. Less pressure on me, too.

Bake what I want, when I want, then write about it.
